Breaking the “Rules”-Christmas Continues for Me!

Phew!  It’s been a doozy of a year with a lot of awesomeness in 2014, which ended with a lot of stress/chaos in the last couple months (as you may remember from THIS post).  That being said, I’ve decided to make my own “rules” about holiday celebrations this year and am continuing Christmas!  I am celebrating the New Year at the same time and have already picked my “word” for the year (which I will be sharing in a later post).  One of the ways I live inspired is by doing things that bring me joy, even if it’s not the “norm” and even if that means dancing to the beat of my own drum when the world is playing a different tune.  I’ve never been much of a crowd … Continue Reading

Classy Christmas Decor-My Snowy Owl Tree Topper

snowy owl tree topper

It’s time to come on in to the cozy cottage and see some Christmas decor!  Last year was my first Christmas as a home owner with my very own “grown up” tree.  We live near the woods and I wanted to create an Enchanted Woodland Christmas theme in the upstairs living room.  I saw these cool white snowy owl tree toppers at the Pottery Barn but they were out of my budget.  As luck would have it, I was able to find the same owl for a WAY cheaper price at another store!!  AND, even luckier yet I was able to get my owl tree topper FREE.  I will explain how you can get a faux Pottery Barn snowy owl tree topper for next to nothing (or free depending on … Continue Reading

Inspired Poetry by Rebekah-An Abundance of Riches

the world is so full of a number of things

It’s here!  The latest poem I wrote for my inspirational poetry book.  I know it’s not a poetic Friday, but since last Friday was Thanksgiving weekend, I am sharing this now.  For those of you who don’t know, poetry has been a big part of my life since about the third grade.  One of the poems I enjoyed in childhood was one from the book “A Child’s Garden of Verses” by Robert Louis Stevenson.  Today’s poetry was inspired by the little poem “Happy Thought” that he wrote (as seen in the graphic image above).     An Abundance of Riches   When I see the discontent of the world, I have to wonder if there’s a lack of noticing. Are we blind to the riches we possess, Because of … Continue Reading

Letters from Rebekah-It’s Been a Rough Couple Weeks!

” And hard times are good in their own way too.  Because the only way you can achieve true happiness is if you experience true sadness as well.  It’s all about light and shade.  Balance. “ – Gabrielle Williams       I have found this to be so true in my life, and for that reason I wouldn’t completely eradicate the dark times.  While I live inspired and write inspiring things for my readers (and for my own healing for that matter!), it is important for me to also share the hard times with you.  I want you to know that my living inspired is a choice.  It’s grown out of a 15 year journey of personal trials and self discovery, which has ultimately led to finding myself again. … Continue Reading

Cell Phones-A Funny Poem About Technology and Modern Times

It’s Friday Night which means it is time for poetry in Five!  The word this week is Patience (note, I went to the FMF facebook page to get the word and I guess Patience was the Tuesday word, which I didn’t notice until now.  I already wrote on Patience so, my apologies fellow FMFers for having the word wrong).  My 5 min. ran out about halfway through the poem today, but I was having fun with it so I continued on.  Hopefully my readers have a sense of humor and will laugh at this (I love making you guys smile!), because this week’s poem is meant to be funny, satirical and a bit hyperbole.  I went the direction of relating patience (or lack thereof) to the challenges of living in a modern … Continue Reading

God’s Doing Something New With Me-Poetry in Five

It’s Friday , which means it is time for my Poetry in Five Series!  This is where I link up with my favorite writing prompt community to write for five minutes on the word of the week.  I have a goal of writing more poetry (as it is one of my main loves when it comes to words), so I give myself the extra challenge of writing a poem (and a rhyming one if possible).  Today’s word is NEW.  These words were inspired by a conversation I had with a lady who is going through a very hard time right now.  Having each gone through some very trying times in life, we talked about new beginnings and the miracles that have been present every step along the way!   Today’s … Continue Reading

Everyday Miracles-God Sent Me a Heart!

God loves us quote

Sometimes people want to know where my joy despite the tough stuff comes from.  Why am I so perky?  How do such serendipitous things find their way to me? etc.  It really is because of the presence of God in my life.  This is part of my testimony and I know it’s something that not everyone relates to, but I have to be authentically me.  I experience little everyday miracles frequently, and I know that is because of 1. God’s love & grace and 2. My awareness of them.  I am willing and open to receiving them,  noticing them, hunting for them (being a blessings hunter, which you can read more about that on my website’s About page), asking God for them, thanking God for them, and making sure I … Continue Reading

Cat Nap Time-Adorable Photos of My Kitties Sleeping

Need a break from your day?  One of the cozy little things that relaxes me is watching my cats nap.   I am sharing several photos of cozy little cat nap scenes from around my home today.  Fluffy (the smaller, fluffier one of the two) and Mickey (Fluffy’s baby, who is larger than her tiny Mama!) are our two cats pictured below.   I rescued Fluffy just 2 years ago when she was a pregnant feral kitty who had just gone in to labor.  She and her (big) child are a very tight knit family and they sleep together every night, nap together, and well…do most everything together!  They also like to curl up with me to take naps and sleep with Matt at the foot of the bed at … Continue Reading

Are We Ever Really Ready? A Poem About Letting Go

For those of you who love my poetry and look forward to seeing what I concoct with the word of the day on these Five Minute Fridays-I’m sorry it’s been awhile!  For weeks I couldn’t find FMF and thought it was on a hiatus, but I just learned that it has moved to another website.  So, I have my word of the day.  Today’s word is READY.  A rhyming poem is what came out, as I thought to myself “Are We Ever Really Ready?”  Changes are not always easy, and with Fall coming quickly upon us, we must bend and change a little along with the seasons.  I hope you enjoy today’s inspiring poem!     Are We Ever Really Ready?   When is the butterfly ready to emerge from … Continue Reading

Tip of the Week: How to Prevent Jam Or Jelly From Crystallizing

cooking concord grape jam on the stove

It’s time for a Tip of the Week!  This is where I share random stuff I know to help make your life easier.  Today’s tip is handy for anyone who is interested in canning or making jams, jellies, preserves, etc.  Have you ever tried to make a jam and wound up with hard sugar clumps in the jar later?  I have fortunately never had this happen, but I know several people who have.  So, today I am sharing “How to Prevent Jam or Jelly From Crystallizing!”     It all has to do with temperature and timing.  If you have ever wound up with undesirable sugar crystals in your jams or jellies, you probably added the sugar when your mixture was too hot.  The process of adding sugar to hot … Continue Reading
