Growing Wings – Inspirational Poetry by Rebekah

Butterfly on purple flower

Growing Wings Sometimes life knocks us down and we Forget all that we’re meant to be. Forget our power and our light, Forget that we are made for flight. Forget that we can SOAR above, Forget that we all come from Love. Forget that we can overcome, Forget our story is not done. Forget the reason we are here, When weighted down by human fear. But you are not just flesh and bones, Broken by life’s sticks and stones! You, my dear, are made for more, You are spirit- created to SOAR! You are Love, you are Light, You are a star glowing in the night! You may have forgotten, but it’s okay, Sometimes life can be that way. You can grow wings-it’s not too late, These bumps and potholes … Continue Reading

An Unlikely Bloom – Inspirational Poetry by Rebekah

flower blooming in concrete crack

My latest poem for the poetry book I am working on. Like most of my nature themed poetry, here we can draw on inspiration from beauty that blooms in unlikely places, knowing we too can bloom in less than perfect conditions. Bloom, and thrive even! Enjoy! xoxo, Rebekah   An Unlikely Bloom   It wasn’t in the garden It wasn’t with the rest, It didn’t grow in greenery, Conditions weren’t the best. It didn’t have much space to bloom It didn’t have much light, Just a concrete jungle A less than perfect site. It found a crack in which to bloom A ray of hope crept in, And seeped down deep into the dirt Stirring all within. A little seed began to sprout And grow out towards the light, It … Continue Reading

You Make a Difference! – Poetry by Rebekah

It’s poetry time again! It’s been so long since I’ve written and shared the poem of the week here (which I typically did on Friday). I had taken time away from it to work on my poetry book, but am thinking of returning to the Five Minute Friday community. I was inspired to to work on my poetry again by a sweet woman who recently read a poem of mine and left me the most wonderful comment that she had sent it to her 93 year old mother, some other people as well, and reads it herself every morning. I don’t think there is any better feeling in the world for a writer, than to know your words have touched someone in some way. This poem I wrote is a … Continue Reading

Lost- a Poem and the Story of Amazing Grace

Feeling Lost

Five Minute Friday is here, and this week I am back to bringing you a rhyming poem in five!  Linking up a day late, as I was working hard on a project yesterday.  Today’s word is LOST.  This poem ended up evolving into using the sea and sailing as a metaphor for life.  I am excited to share it with you!  If you are in need of encouragement today because you are feeling lost or burdened by your troubles, I hope you will take comfort in these words.  I am including the powerful story of the spiritual song Amazing Grace as part of today’s story.       Lost   When you’ve wandered off the path and don’t know where to turn, When the waters are no longer calm and … Continue Reading

The Fairy Messengers-Inspired Poetry by Rebekah

It’s Five Minute Friday and the word this week is MESSENGERS.  I had such fun with this word!  I have written another fairy poem for the fairy poetry book I am working on publishing.  Today’s poem is called “The Fairy Messengers”.  Most of my fairy poetry is inspired by my garden and the wide variety of flowers, greenery and creatures I “play” with there.  Get ready to be sprinkled with fairy dust! 😀     The Fairy Messengers:   Quick as a flash they dart through the sky, Rarely seen by the naked eye. Over field and meadow they carry your dreams, As they ride on the back of dragonfly wings.   Leaving love notes on flowers and sprinkling new seeds, Following the wind wherever it leads. Merry with joy, … Continue Reading

These Ordinary Extraordinary Hands

We often take the simple things-those small seemingly insignificant things in life for granted.  I like looking beyond the small to see the power of what small can do!  Today’s Five Minute Friday word is HANDS.  Here is what I have to say (in the form of today’s free verse poem called “These Ordinary Extraordinary Hands”):      These Ordinary Extraordinary Hands: He says my hands are small, as he holds them up to his. I smile and think- These hands, these seemingly small and delicate hands, do Large things. And I marvel at them now Just thinking of all the ways in which they’ve served me and served others.   These hands turn simple ingredients like flour, sugar and butter into glorious meals that fill the tummy and fill … Continue Reading

The Path of Blessings-Poetry in Five

Every Friday I write for 5 minutes straight in poetry style (free verse or rhyme depending on what I am able to do with the word of the week) and share it at Lisa Jo’s with a wonderful community of writers, some who have become friends.  I hope you will enjoy your time here each Friday (and beyond!).  Today’s word is REMEMBER.  Let’s see what I can do with it.   Go The Path of Blessings: As I traverse this path of life, I hope to not remember strife. I hope to leave all woes behind, And walk with joy the road that winds. And stop to help my fellow man, And do good deeds where I can. And drink in sunshine when it shows, And stop to bend where … Continue Reading

Inspirational Five Minute Friday: Grasp

Today’s blog post is something new I tried this week.  It’s a 5 min. writing exercise prompted by Lisa-Jo, a community leader at the InCourage (part of Dayspring) network for women.  I was a bit chicken to do it, but anyways…here goes. If you are a blogger and want to participate in 5 min. Fridays, there is a new word prompt each week , and you can click through the link at the bottom of this to check it out. Rules: 1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking. 2. Link back here and invite others to join in. 3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them … Continue Reading
