I am keeping today’s post simple, in honor or Labor Day :). I hope you have been enjoying a wonderful, long weekend! Matt and I are hosting our first little family barbecue today. It is a belated cookout for Matt’s birthday/Labor Day get together. My parents got him Omaha Steak Co. steak burgers for his birthday, so we will be cooking those on the grill. We are particularly excited to try out the new seasoning rubs I got him for his birthday. You know me-not one much for plain stuff- variety is the spice of life and keeps me living inspired!
So these won’t be just plain burgers, they will be burgers seasoned with a Mesquite grilling seasoning rub. Last week (on Matt’s actual birthday) we tried Montreal seasoned steaks. YUM! I will be doing a post about rubs in the future, as I really enjoy experimenting with them.
For a belated birthday dessert surprise, I am making Brownie Hot Fudge Sundaes! We recently started buying baked goods from a former Amish couple in our community who were struggling a bit financially and cook up a storm every day (we like to support the “little guy” around here). She makes these to die for dark chocolate fudge brownies (which Matt has not had yet). Stick a little ice cream and hot fudge on top..and well…that is what we are having for dessert.
I also am excited to entertain with this gorgeous sunflower decor I got on sale for our new patio table and chair set. A cheerful sunflower and fall leaf centerpiece, sunflower napkin rings, terracotta flower pot candles, and even cloth napkins (now that is one fancy barbecue to kick off Fall, no?). I will take photos and share details on where I shop for my stuff.
What are you doing for Labor Day? I would love to hear, so leave a comment if you like!
I hope you will get a chance to take it easy today. A little rest is good for the soul!
