It’s time for another 5 min. Friday (my second one). What is this you ask? Well us writers are given 1 word (and we are not given the word ahead of time, I assume so that we can’t ponder it all week) and then we are supposed to set a timer for 5 min. and just write whatever we can think of with that word. No backtracking, no over analyzing, no worrying about mistakes. It’s interesting that is for sure! I had a hard time with today’s word “Welcome” and must confess I sat there blank for a bit at first. Here is my poem about Welcome:
Go
Welcome
A picture of Grace
with arms wide open
not restricting , not folded down
Hands reaching out to another-
warm and inviting.
An “I’m so glad you’re here”
or a “How may I help you?”
a smile, perhaps a hug.
Like a balm for the spirit-
These gestures of the heart.
A warm glow-
like the candlelight that fills a room and comforts all within it’s walls.
or the scents of home that stir our memories and evoke these feelings –
of welcome.
Souls can be welcoming too.
Grace. Kindness. Kindred Spirits.
That seem to say-
You are welcome here.
You are accepted.
You are special.
When we have a heart of welcome we glorify Him.
For He welcomes everyone-
regardless of size, shape, or status.
All are of equal importance in His eyes.
It is just His way-
May it be ours.
