One of the most handy kitchen tools I use is a silicone trivet. I actually got mine from Avon a long time ago when I used to sell it, but you can get them online and probably at various stores as well. They are very inexpensive. This is what mine looks like:
There are lots of uses for these things! It’s one of those “I don’t know how I lived without it before”, items for me. There are some obvious uses for a silicone trivet, such as :
- a trivet (well duh!) haha. Great for keeping near the stove or on the table to set hot dishes and pots on
- A hot pad- you can use these in lieu of an oven mitt to grip the handles of a hot pot lid or pan handle with.
- a gripping device for when you can’t pry off a jar lid (to the spaghetti sauce for example ) and need something to help you grip and turn any type of bottle or jar lid.
But now for my newest found favorite use!
I like to bake a lot and I don’t have an electric mixer, so I mix everything by hand (usually with a wooden spoon). One thing that really annoys me is when I am whipping something up and the mixing bowl keeps slipping or sliding around on the counter/table. Have you ever had this problem? Guess what? Silicone trivets/pads fix this !! All you do is slip the silicone trivet underneath your mixing bowls and you can beat the mixture by hand as much as you want and the bowl will stay put. One time I saw some mixing bowls online with silicone bottoms and that is what gave me the idea to just turn any regular bowls I have into virtually the same thing, but for less money. It works really well, and makes my mixing so much easier.
If you have any creative uses for silicone pads or trivets, please leave your tips in the comment section. I hope you find this tip useful!

Love the idea of the non-slip bowl. Could be very handy when the kids are helping…something new to add to my wish list 🙂
Never thought of it for kids, but that brings a good point!
Love this! What a great tip. So glad you shared and linked up with Simply Better.

The silicone trivet is a very handy dandy little thing. In addition to all of the alternative uses that you’ve listed, I use mine as a lid for my 1 qt saucepan that came without one. Since I frequently cook small amounts for just myself and one other person, I don’t always need my 3 qt saucepan with the lid. This works out just perfect. Just be sure not to burn yourself with the steam.
Good tip Tracy! I hadn’t thought of that one, and I too have a small pan with no lid. Will have to try that.
Just got one today as a HUNT’S promotion. Wondered how I could use it so thanks for the ideas.
