Tip of the Week- My Money Saving Online Shopping “Secrets”

Since I am in the midst of a little money saving series for holiday shopping {on how I get things free or really discounted}, I thought I would share some general money saving tips today.  I have been talking about specific places I use, but I thought now would be a good time to break from that and tell you some tips that will apply to most every place you shop. These things don’t take much time, and are very worth it.  This post may be a little bit long as a result, but I want all of these tips to be in one place to make it easy for you.  Save this post for a reference! It takes awhile to get in to the habit of remembering to … Continue Reading

DIY Cool Crackle Finish Nail Art for Halloween/Twilight Inspired Looks

This Halloween I decided to try out a really neat new Manicure/Pedicure so I can look all cool and stuff for when I pass out Halloween Candy to the Trick-or-Treaters Tonight in my costume.  I have been seeing a lot of trendy looking nail art looks this year using all different kinds of funky colors and textures.  I have a really cool Halloween Inspired look for you that is really easy to do yourself ,but yet looks like you went to a lot of trouble.  For those of you who like the Twilight Books and Movies, the colors I used (shades of twilight, like black, purples, gray glitters, etc) combined with the crackle finish, did remind me of bare trees/branches at night.  Maybe that is just my creative eye, … Continue Reading

(Cooking) Tip of the Week- Handy Silicone Trivets!

One of the most handy kitchen tools I use is a silicone trivet.  I actually got mine from Avon a long time ago when I used to sell it, but you can get them online and probably at various stores as well.  They are very inexpensive.  This is what mine looks like:     There are lots of uses for these things!  It’s one of those “I don’t know how I lived without it before”, items for me.  There are some obvious uses for a silicone trivet, such as : a trivet (well duh!) haha.  Great for keeping near the stove or on the table to set hot dishes and pots on A hot pad- you can use these in lieu of an oven mitt to grip the handles … Continue Reading

Tip of the Week-How to check your voicemail from another phone

Have you ever had the need to check your voice mail messages from a phone other than your cell phone?  This is a really short, but useful tip of the week that may come in handy for you at some point.   Maybe you went on a trip or are just out & about and forgot your phone.  Maybe your phone has gotten lost or been stolen (this just happened to my friend Becky).  Whatever the reason, it is really easy to check your cell phone messages from another phone.   All you have to do is dial your cell phone number from any phone and when the greeting comes on, press the pound sign on your phone (pound is the number sign) and then enter your password for your … Continue Reading

How to Clean/Care for Your Cast Iron Cookware

In a previous post, I discussed what’s cool (and healthy) about cooking with Cast Iron.  If you want to catch up and check that article out just click on this title: “Tip of the Week-Cooking with Cast Iron & Creative Grilled Cheese Ideas”. This week’s tip is a follow up on how to take care of your cast iron.  Let’s talk first about Cleaning.     Washing Your Cookware: Some people will tell you to never use soap to clean your cast iron.  It depends on what I am cooking as to if I use soap or not.  If I am making something like grilled cheese for example, I don’t use soap.  With grilled cheese you can actually just wipe out the pan with a napkin when done (if … Continue Reading

Tip of the Week- Cooking w/Cast Iron & Creative Grilled Cheese Ideas

Today I am inspired by cast iron skillets and grilled cheese sandwiches (Doesn’t take much to excite me, huh 🙂  ) because in my opinion they just make the best grilled cheese!   On a side note , I also love making breakfast foods in cast iron skillets.  Why cast iron?  I find that cast iron tends to get things just the right crispness on the outside , but yet soft inside.   My pancakes and omelets come out perfectly golden brown, and the bacon is more crispy.  Why is this?  It is because cast iron is an even conductor of heat (meaning stuff gets evenly browned).   What about saving money?  They also save you money because these pans can last your whole lifetime!  In fact, many people have passed … Continue Reading

Tip of The Week- How to Fix a Waterlogged Cell Phone

A couple of months ago my cell phone fell in the bathtub.  Don’t ask how- it’s really quite stupid.  I am not the only one who has had this “O crap!” moment.  I have friends who have dropped their phones in toilets, sinks and who knows what else ( I am thinking swimming pools this time of year).  Aside from cell phones being expensive, no one wants to lose their contacts or other important phone stuff that they really need.  There IS a way to fix waterlogged cell phones though, so don’t worry just yet and give this a try:   First you will want to take your phone out of the water source as quickly as possible (I am not sure how well this method works with phones that … Continue Reading
