The Cat That Got Caught Yellow Handed

There was a “who done it” mystery to solve last week.

A formerly beautiful table set with a fresh arrangement of Flowers from the garden.

Happy white daisies with bright yellow centers from Mom’s garden,

and red Asiatic lily’s from mine.

A mess of flowers strewn everywhere and water spilled all over the table from the overturned vase.

It wasn’t TOO hard to figure out “who done it” , as it obviously wasn’t one of we humans that reside here, so unless we have a poltergeist (doubtful), we knew it must be one of the cats.  but which one?

Was it Rusty , “The Cat That Came to Dinner” (click the title for that hilarious story), who often sits at the dining table like the human he thinks he is?

Was it Rosie (the other tabby) who likes to watch the jewelry channel on TV?

Or Tangerine… the formerly feral calico that enjoyed her First Christmas Tree with us last year (click on the Christmas Tree to see those photos/story) ?

EVIDENCE!!  The Culprit got caught “yellow handed”.

Tangerine Covered in Pollen

It was Tangerine.  If you guessed right, you have my permission to eat a cookie :D.  She was covered in yellow pollen on her paw, her face, and the one side of her neck.

Tangerine the Cat

However, who can scold a face like that?  ( I only had a cell with me for a camera, so please excuse the low photo quality).  Mostly we ended up giggling.  She is always doing something entertaining!

Does your pet have an obsession with flowers like ours does?  We can’t even keep flowers in a vase on the table.  It is pretty well pointless with Tangerine in the house.

Tangerine wasn’t the only one who got caught wearing yellow last week though.  I also have a penchant for flowers and had bent to whiff in the delightful aroma of an especially fragrant lily (large and white with lots of yellow pollen down inside).

Matt pointed out to me that I had something stuck to my lip and when I wiped my mouth with a napkin , the napkin turned yellow.

I got a bit stumped on that one, as I don’t wear yellow lipstick you know!  (I mean yellow lipstick..how awful would that look!?).  It took me awhile to come to the conclusion that I too got pollen on my face while stopping to smell the flowers.  At least in my case I didn’t munch on them!

I guess Tangerine and I have a little something in common….

Cheeky kitty!! Give her an extra cuddle for me 😉

  2. Bethany says:

Amelia no longer allows us to have cut flowers in the house. Only she and Tangerine know why those evil flowers must be destroyed…. Maybe it is the pollen they leave on whoever tries to vanquish them that is so untrustworthy?

  3. emma says:

Oh kitty, that happens to us dogs too…so embarrassing! Stopping by from the blog hop 🙂

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Haha. Thanks for stopping by. I will try to stay out of trouble if you will too 😉

  4. lol! my georgie is a wee bit of a trouble maker too…but he’s also just a kitten…when does he get boring and lazy?!

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Hmm, well. It depends on their personality. I have 2 rescued kittens from the same feral colony Tangerine came from (Mickie & Minnie..the site mascots in the side bar) and they did not settle down more until just recently..and they just turned 1 year old. However, Mickey is still pretty hyper and I think it is just her personality. Tangerine is probably 2 or 3 and she has yet to settle down. She does sleep a lot more now than when we first met her, but she still makes a ton of noise and get in to everything. She acts a bit like she has ADHD :).

  5. Tangerine sure is an explorer. Your story reminds me of when I used to ask my daughter if she’d gotten into the ice cream. She’d deny it, but the evidence was on her face.

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Haha..cute! It’s hard to act innocent with such incriminating evidence to the contrary :). Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Our three youngest kitties cannot keep their mouths off any flowers we have and we always have fresh flowers. They’ve never pulled any out of the vase, but Lisbeth has destroyed flowers and the vase by shoving them off on the stone floor. At least you didn’t leave the house with the pollen all over your face. I went out that way once and nobody said a thing to me! Have a great WW. • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Tangerine will pull them right out. She likes to reach in and snatch all sorts of things. I think shoving stuff on on a stone floor is worse though because of breakage! Well, I may not have “went out” with pollen, but we happened to be hosting a party with family outside that night. It was sort of a new home open house haha. I don’t think anyone noticed though. Matt pulled me aside and told me in the kitchen while we were getting plates to take out. Funny that you have had a pollen face too 🙂

Have a great weekend. Hi to all of your kitty tribe. From my kitty tribe to yours!

Ha, glad you didn’t munch on them! I would LOVE to keep fresh flowers in the house, but with four cats it’s just not possible. I have to keep my love for gardens on the outside of my home.

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Yes, that would be a bit weird looking to the neighbors wouldn’t it? I also have four cats, but they are not all moved in to the new home yet (where the garden is). I imagine I soon won’t be able to easily keep fresh flowers indoors either. Although it’s really only 1 kitty that gets in to them the most!

  8. Pinky says:

Awww, she wanted to play with the dishes too:) Was your large white lily a Casablanca? They are SO fragrant. I was a floral designer before I retired:) Thanks for your visit and I will be back to see you again too. XO, pinky

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

I am not 100% sure Pinky, but after a Google search on Casablanca Lilies, I think you are right! I am new to this gardening stuff. I just became a first time home owner, and we got a wonderful home (part of an estate) where the previous owners had been gardeners and the house was on the home and garden tours here at one point. I am getting my feet wet with all of these many flower varieties established in our new backyard here as I work to restore the gardens and learn how to upkeep them. I so appreciate your suggestion, as now I have an idea of what they are! I would love it if you stop by the blog more in the future , as maybe you can help me identify more things I am not sure of.

The large white lilies are very tall..in fact I had to put a support up so they would not droop, as the weight of the plant made them droop to the ground. The plant is at least 3 feet tall I would say and there is a cluster of HUGE white lily’s at the top. Yes, they are wonderfully fragrant. They smell exactly like a perfume ..I wish I could bottle the scent! It is a very fragrant yard indeed..with many colors of lilies (huge light yellow ones too and red also. ) and other fragrant blooms. I used to want to be a floral designer myself. I remember applying to work at several flower shops when I was in high school just so I could be surrounded by flowers all day. I never did get hired though! What a wonderful profession you were in :). Thanks for stopping by. I will be sure to pop by to see you again as well. Blessings!
