Home- a Poetic Rhyme for Five Minute Friday

It’s time for another Five Minute Friday, where I try my best to create inspirational poetry in five minutes with whatever the word of the day is.  Today’s word is: HOME and for the first time ever I was able to write a rhyming poem in five minutes.  I find rhymes in five hard, because the rhyming slows me down.  Hopefully this poem will make beautiful sense to you, as you know how it is supposed to go with five min. Friday- you write whatever comes to mind (not over thinking it).  It is interesting to see what comes out!

Go

Home

Though I may wander far from youth,

I hope to not forget my way.

For all I know of home is Truth,

‘Tis where I know my heart shall stay.

‘Tis there my self at first was formed,

‘Tis there with trees and flowers grew.

A soul that flourished un-adorned,

and later, leaving, started new.

Ah, Home- a place that love I still,

where Hopes and Dreams and Wishes made-

Gave this humble heart a will,

to keep them going , lest they fade.

 Stop

  1. i’m impressed!

i’ve never tried rhyming poetry on a 5mf write!

this was not only sweet, it was good, too!!

Thank you Richelle. I had never tried it either! I have wanted to, but it’s too hard usually. For some reason today, when I was trying to write typical non rhyming poetry, i was totally stumped and sat there staring haha. Then a rhyme hit my head and I decided to run with that. I did get stuck on the second to last line for a bit though (trying to rhyme it). As some of the stuff was coming out I thought – gee I hope this all will make sense. Thank you for the nice comment. I was wondering if it would make sense to others as it did in my head 😀

  2. Lizzy says:

Beautiful!! You did a really great job here. Loved spending these 5 minutes with you 🙂

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Thanks! It was truly fun trying rhyme this week. Maybe I can do it again, but I dunno…it’s the kind of thing you can’t really plan on 🙂 Blessings your way, and now on to read yours.

  3. Paula says:

Always feel at home here! Beautiful, Rebekah!

I loved your poem, Bekah! You did an amazing job in 5 minutes! And yes, I did understand what you were trying to get across. Beautifully done!

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Thank you Becky! It’s funny because I didn’t stop to think about the phrases coming out of my head as I wrote (cause you aren’t supposed to with these Five min. deals) and so I was thinking it would be interesting to analyze it after it came out to see if it all works together haha. I enjoyed writing in a more romantic old fashioned style. It is fun to play around with different ways of writing 😀

  6. Beautiful! I used to be able to rhyme really easily, but anymore, it seems to forced. I love how easily your words flowed here. 🙂

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Thank you for the sweet comment 🙂 Rhyming is supposedly “out” in the poetry world for modern times anyways, but I still like the old romantic style poems. Sometimes rhyming can seem forced for me too…I hate it when I will start out with a good rhyme and then I can’t find a word to rhyme it with for the next line , and it starts to sound majorly cheesy. That is the toughest thing to avoid with rhyming (unless the motive is to be like Dr. Seuss)!

  7. I love poetry – and your 5 minute poem is delightful – I especially loved this line: “Gave this humble heart a will,
to keep them going , lest they fade” – home can do this:)

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Well hello there fellow poetry lover 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and leaving a nice comment. In response to what you said- yes it can!

  8. Osheta Moore says:

oh my word, Rebekah! Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my FMF. If you hadn’t I would not have been able to read this fantastic poem. What a gift you have to create poetry in five minutes! Thank you for sharing.

  9. I can’t believe you did this in five minutes! I was already impressed when I thought you had spent some serious time of it. I think you should have it published. Anyway, wonderful poem. Keep writing.

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

To tell you the truth , I can’t either. This was my first time rhyming in 5. Thank you so much, and I will for sure work on poems, keep writing, and go for those dreams. I have enjoyed your latest writing as well (the forward). Sounds like what could be an exciting series!

  10. Esther says:

    Hey Reb!
    This is so beautiful 🙂
I could also like hear the rhythm in my head as I read it 😀
You’re so talented at this! 🙂

    • Rebekah (We Live Inspired) says:

Hey Esther! Thanks for reading it and commenting on the rhythm. I think you are the first person to ever point a rhythm out to my poetry, so that is really cool because that is what I was going for (I could hear it in my head too 🙂 ). Your kind words are much appreciated. xo

  11. Esther says:

    teehee ! 🙂
    I’m glad I heard it right! :p
I took literature in high school and pre-university
    and loved it! hehe 🙂
    xoxo

  12. First off I would like to say fantastic blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you do not mind.

I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I’ve had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out.

I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15
minutes tend to be wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin.
    Any suggestions or hints? Cheers!
